ANDERSONVILLE – pH Productions will be closing the doors of its performance venue, The pH Comedy Theater, on May 31. Despite the venue ceasing operations, pH will remain an active theater company and integrated part of the Chicago comedy community.
“The decision to no longer shoulder the challenge of maintaining and operating a theater space in Andersonville was not an easy one to make,” says pH Executive Director Brett Mannes. “pH was established in 2002 and enjoyed a rich history of making audiences laugh prior to opening The pH Comedy Theater in 2012. And we will continue to do so. While our time at 1515 W. Berwyn has come to a satisfying end, our passion for our company’s mission remains as energetic as ever.”
pH’s mission is to create intimate comedic experiences that involve and invigorate audiences while providing opportunity for those interested in comedy. It will remain an active 501(c)(3) not-for-profit arts organization in the state of Illinois.
The final performances in the venue known as The pH Comedy Theater will occur from Thursday, May 18 through Saturday, May 27 per the following schedule:
– Thu, May 18 – Student Showcase (8PM); College Night Improv (9:30PM)

After these performances, the company will take a month-long hiatus from performing and creating content as it reshapes itself and sets a new path forward.
“We invite our fans and friends to join us in celebration of the many artistically vibrant years we spent in this venue. Stay connected to pH on social media as we evolve into our next iteration,” adds Mannes. “I couldn’t be more proud of what this group of artists and volunteers accomplished since opening the Andersonville space, and look forward to getting to work on new material to share with the city at large.”
About pH Productions
pH Productions has been putting up original comedic work since 2002. The name pH comes from the idea of group chemistry. In science, the pH scale is used to measure how acidic or basic a substance is which explains pH Productions perfectly as they have a wide range of performers and shows that all add up to one funny solution. pH’s productions are a fully participatory experience and the audience leaves most every show having contributed to its outcome. pH also strives to be an affordable alternative, with most ticket prices $15 or less. pH Productions is also the producer of the Chicago Zombie Pub Crawl, which began in 2008 and welcomes nearly 1000 zombies into the bars of Andersonville every spring. pH Productions is a recognized 501(c)(3) not-for-profit arts organization in the State of Illinois.
