Our theater has moved around a lot over the years – from Bucktown, to Wrigleyville, to Lakeview and finally home to the Andersonville neighborhood. In October of 2010, we moved into the 1515 space and began building a different kind of comedy theater. Our space is a comfortable 45-seat theater that can be configured several different ways. Our ample lobby is perfect for receptions, or the curtains can be pulled back and seats can be added to create an even larger event space. We have a fully automated box office system and can set up any event. Our lobby area also features a full band area that is capable of holding a three-piece band, and is fully wired to hook into our sound system. The theater is fully handicapped accessible with a ramp leading into the main theater.
The stage area can be converted into two different sizes. The smaller size allows for a back row of curtains that creates a backstage crossover area, perfect for sketch shows, small plays and almost any size improv show. The back row of curtains can be taken down to create a larger space for slightly larger productions. The theater features 45 comfortable seats, with the ability to add 10 more. The stage offers four sturdy stage chair as well as up to eight lightweight, easily-moved folding chairs. The curtains can be pulled back on both sides of the theater to reveal mirrored walls – perfect for learning dance choreography and blocking for shows. The stage has full light and sound capabilities – including full white lights and three LED lights for crisp color. Our sound system has a multi-channel system that allows complete control over musical instruments and the laptop sound system (with a fully loaded Spotify account to boot). The tech booth is lofted and features an area for a keyboard and music director. The keyboard can also move to our pit area, which features an electric drum kit and hookups for both electric and bass guitars. The lofted booth allows for the tech director and music director to have a complete view of the stage.
The theater has a green room with a small storage space for costumes and props and lockers for personal storage. The green room also features a small makeup table and mirrors for show preparation. The theater features one fully handicapped-accesible bathroom. If you are interested in renting our space for your event or show please email info (at) whatisph.com for rates and availability. We are available most weekdays during the day and Sunday evenings, but we do accept special requests for other performance slots as well.
